Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çimen Günay Erkol (Ozyegin University) - Phantom Masculinity: From Empire to Republic
In this talk, I'll elaborate on the instability and duality of masculinities, using Hauntology as a foundation, and theorizing "Phantom Masculinities" as cracks in what is often considered as the bedrock of sustainable patriarchy. Following Avery Gordon, I trace the ghostly presence of physically and mentally wounded men in the narratives of contemporary Turkish Literature. I will focus on post-world war novels, that is why the second part of the title carries a time reference such as from Empire to Republic. |
